Make Summer Last in Santa Fe!
As the summer season comes to an end, it can feel like you’re running out of things to do. However, this August, you can truly unlock any creative potential here in “The City Different” with classes like glassblowing, cooking, and yoga—just to name a few! Come and get involved in activities that have some serious Santa Fe flair.
Relax Your Mind, and BODY!
Lorin Parrish’s BODY is a haven for healthy-living individuals. With classes for beginners and advanced yogis, BODY provides a welcoming community for those seeking to change their routine. Drop by the café after your workout to replenish and refresh with one of their organic smoothies. And if that isn’t enough to get you moving—how about this deal? Now through September 15th, BODY Studio is offering one free yoga, Nia, or dance class of your choice. Stop at the guest services desk to redeem your free class. BODY also offers drop-in space for their daycare center, so that you can “flow” without fear.
Shred the Weekend Away at Skate School
The Skate School of Santa Fe can make a novice feel like a pro. Come to one of their safety, skill, or online courses to get yourself street-ready. They also feature private lessons and skate camps for all ages and abilities! Founded and run by 44—year skateboarding guru Joe Lehm, Skate School of Santa Fe is dedicated to “traditional” style skateboarding. The school provides students with helmets, pads, and boards for the cost of the class, and teaches you to use all the gear properly. For any pros or ex-skaters returning to the circuit, the Skate School of Santa Fe offers lessons for those who want to become teachers, too!
Unlock Your Creative Potential
On Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 pm, you can find local artist Lauren Mantecón at work in her studio with visiting local artists. At Open Studio Wednesdays with Lauren Mantecón, you can immerse yourself completely in artistic pursuits. Lauren allows you to bring ideas and materials to work on whatever inspires you. She offers a one—hour “crash course” or a lesson on materials and mixed media that is not required, but still encouraged. Spend your afternoon in the stunning Sandia foothills while exploring the artist within.
Cook Up Some Fun
This is a Santa Fe classic! The Santa Fe School of Cooking gives everyone the opportunity to cook like a real professional, either through hands-on or demonstration class work. SFSC also offers walking tours of Santa Fe’s most unique and well-respected restaurants. On August 20th, take your pick of classes like the famous, hands-on “Green Chilé Workshop” or “Southwest Party Fare”—a demonstration class with goodies like gazpacho, crab and corn fritters, and mini shredded pork tacos! Pull up a chair at the “Southwest Brunch” demonstration class on August 30th at 11:00 am. It features an incredible meal that incorporates local produce and tradition. Indulge in chipotle spinach and goat cheese quiches, blue corn pancakes with fresh berry compote, and much more!
If you haven’t been by to check out the regional displays of pottery and housewives at Jackalope, don’t wait another day! With enough clolor to fill a rainbow and endless styles to choose from, Jackalope has become a New Mexico staple. At Prairie Dog Glass, artists and glass workers eagerly wait to show visitors and natives a thing or two about glass blowing. With intimate three people sessions, lasting about an hour, each participant gets to choose their own gift to make and take home. Pick from options like flowers, a paperweight, or even a vase. There is always something exciting for everyone at Jackalope. Classes are open to all ages and require 24—hour notice.
