Santa Fe’s history runs deep, but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy what is new and trendy as well. This quick rundown spotlights some of the newest and most noteworthy additions to The City Different this summer.
New Musical Celebration
Santa Fe’s thriving music scene takes center stage during the brand new Santa Fe Music Week. Enjoy FREE music every afternoon on the Plaza, as well as local and national acts of every genre at bars and restaurants around town as Santa Fe Music Week takes over The City Different August 24 through September 3, 2018. New Brewery & Distillery
Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery opened in April 2018, debuting two Santa Fe locations simultaneously and becoming the second craft distillery in The City Different and first location to produce both beer and spirits. The production facility on Bisbee Court houses a small tasting room where visitors can watch production activities while sampling daily from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Agua Fria taproom offers live music several nights a week, a patio with a play structure for kids, and rotating schedule of food trucks.
Cacao of Santa Fe has launched a new summer café menu featuring ice cream treats, chocolate and coffee shakes or malts, brownie sundaes with a choice of Spanish chocolate toppings and more. The shop has also added two new flavors of chocolate bars to its lineup -- a dark 55 percent Goat milk chocolate bar and a 90 percent Ecuador bar made with coconut sugar.
Kakawa Chocolate House’s second location is under construction and will open mid-Summer near Meow Wolf and the Second Street Brewery Rufina Taproom. Kakawa has gained international acclaim for its historic elixirs, house-made ice creams & milkshakes, artisanal chocolates and gifts for all chocolate lovers.
New Culinary Festival
The Whiskey Classic will debut in Santa Fe, on October 13, 2018 at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a location often utilized for Western movie filming. The festival will highlight craft whiskey, bourbon and scotch as well as wine, beer and cider produced in New Mexico. Informative sessions during the event will include whiskey pairings, Hot Mixology, Cigars 101, Independent bottlings vs. Distillery bottlings and more.
New Contemporary Art Exhibition
SITE Santa Fe will be opening their newest biennial exhibition “SITElines.2018: Casa tomada” on August 3, 2018, with the exhibition on display through January 6, 2019. Inspired by the Argentinian short story “Casa tomada,” the exhibition features 23 artists from eight countries across the Americas.
The historic, El Rey Court, a Route 66 Motor Court built in 1936, is undergoing a major guest room and property renovation. All rooms will be redesigned with modern southwest style and a retro flair that includes hexagon shaped Saltillo tile floors, sleek but rustic wood furniture and Native American textiles. The swimming pool area has been returned to its mid-century glory as the “Pool Club” and a lawn area on the property will be transformed into a live music venue space. The former breakfast room space was also converted into a hip new bar, La Reina, which is now open.
New Young Artist Workshops
Art Alchemy and Lauren Mantecón Studio in Santa Fe are now offering workshops for children ages 5-15. These 2.5-hour long workshops will give kids the experience of a specialized art class starting at just $40 per person.
New Art Gallery
Promising to focus less on the object and more on the happening, gallery FRITZ endeavors to inspire and educate with compelling exhibits, site-specific installations, multimedia presentations, video projection displays, and traditional art programming. Inspired by an earnest dedication and passion for art, Owner Deborah Fritz consistently exhibits a high standard of contemporary art.
