Booming economy and rising wages earned The City Different a top spot in recent survey

May 13, 2019: The city of Santa Fe ranked number two on the list of “30 Cities Americans are Flocking To,” based on a new report from personal finance website, GOBankingRates. The site recently ran an analysis of American cities with populations of 500,000 or less and ranked cities on multiple factors including economic prosperity, population growth and rising incomes.

To rank the growing cities, or ‘boomtowns,’ GOBakingRates looked at five-year data from 2012-2017. Population, housing, GDP and per capita income data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community and The Bureau of Economic Analysis helped determine the final ranking order. Out of the 347 cities analyzed, Santa Fe ranked in the top two with a 17.2 percent increase in personal income, a 21.5 percent increase in population and a 9.5 percent GDP increase.

On the list of ‘boomtowns,’ Santa Fe is joined by Naples, FL (#1), Sebastian, FL (#3) and Boulder, CO (#4) among others. For the complete city ranking lists and methodology, visit GOBankingRates website.
